![]() Across most of the lake the catch rates of crappie in our fall sample looked to be trending back towards the long-term average, but with a few more 10-11” crappie and a few less crappie under 9” than “normal”. The flood in 2019 led to a large spawning class and an increased abundance of short crappie over the last few years. ![]() The year class of fish spawned in 2019 during the high water year is still having a sizeable impact on the fisheries.Ĭrappie fishing should be good across the entire lake in 2023. I imagine something similar is happening with the unique cutthroat, but I cannot see this, as the fishing spot is far off shore. It’s looking like 2023 will be another great year for fishing on Truman Lake. When the normal bluegill spawns, he immediately flee's away and respawns and it keeps happening until i take my rod out of the water and re-cast. When the trophy bluegill spawns, it bites the hook, tugs on it a few times, and then takes off with the bait. There is no reason why I should catch 50+ trophy bluegill in the same spot, without ever catching a normal bluegill. ![]() So this is not a setup problem, or a time problem. Just to be clear, I can catch trophy cutthroat just fine. It's only the normal bluegill and unique cutthroat. The trophy bluegill are fine, I can catch those all day long. They spawn, and run away, respawn and run away, respawn and run away. I cast close to shore to watch what is happening, and the bluegill get stuck in a loop. Out of the last 3 days of fishing at Rocky Lake, I haven't seen a single person catch a bluegill or unique cutthroat. I have been fishing Rocky Lake for 3 (real days, not game days), and me and everybody else in the server were trying to catch regular bluegill and Unique cutthroat after I had been trying to catch them for an entire day straight.
